About this session

This 4 day sprint is taking place at Netpark, Sedgefield, Durham, TS21 3FD

How can we apply satellite technology in novel ways to address key challenges for utilities and local authorities, in an affordable way?

Earth observation data and satellite technology is being used for an ever increasing range of applications a such as large asset (dam) monitoring, encroachment, leakage detection and ground movement. But lesser known and emerging satellite capabilities, combined with innovative complementary technologies, are unlocking a number of real world applications currently not being exploited. Though use of satellite imagery is believed by some to be either prohibitively expensive or of too low resolution to be of any use – the market has undergone significant changes over the past few years that mean this is not always the case. And whilst funding is available to support the development of new ideas, to create truly sustainable and scalable solutions that create high impact and value to government and private sector, we need to make sure we are identifying the right problems to solve from the outset, and are involving the right people.
